Welcome to the SG Warrant website!

Welcome to the new version of the SG Website. If you are starting to trade warrants there are several features on the website that will introduce you to warrant mechanics and trading and allow you to learn how to benefit from unlimited upside potential while strictly limiting your losses to your original investment.

 Getting started

Covered warrants were launched in the UK in 2002. They are financial instruments , listed on the London Stock Exchange, that allow investors to take either a bearish (i.e the asset will go down) or bullish (i.e the underlying’s value will go up) view on an underlying, stock, index, commodity or currency.

Warrants are traded through your broker, that means that you will not trade directly with SG. We are the market maker on all SG Listed products, meaning that we issue covered warrants and maintain a buy and a sell prices on the London Stock Exchange.

To find a list of brokers who offer covered warrant products please click on the “How Can I Trade? link on the left hand side of the page.

There are various aspects to covered warrant trading that are important to familiarize yourself with before starting to trade.  Our online education section offers four interactive chapters to browse through and help introduce you to these aspects.  At the end of each chapter is a quiz that rates how well you have understood the chapter’s content. To view these chapters, please click on the “Online education” link on the left.

These chapters are a brief introduction to covered warrants. For more information please review our main educational brochure “Good Call”, which is a complete guide to warrant pricing and trading. You can download a pdf version of one of our brochures by clicking on the “Product Guide” link on the left. Otherwise, you can request a free hard-copy by registering on our website or by e-mailing ukwarrants@sgcib.com.

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to call the SG Warrant team on our freephone number 0800 328 1199.

 Reading the warrant price table

You can view live prices for each warrant by clicking on the "Live Quotes" link on the left. You can also view our warrant price tables . You can find live prices as well as live market news and broker recommendations as well as bi-weekly technical analysis.

The warrant price table provides you with important information on each warrant such as the risk/reward profile of the warrant, live bid and ask price strike price, expiry and effective gearing.

A new feature is the size column. This indicates the number of warrants SG is animating a price for. In other words it indicates the maximum number of warrants you can buy on-line with your broker in one trade. Beyond that amount, your broker will have to obtain a price over the phone.

 Trading tools

There are several on-line trading tools that are available and free to use on the website. These will help you select the appropriate warrant and  build your warrant trades. Once you have registered (it is FREE to do so) you can access these tools by clicking on the “Trading tools” link on the left hand side.

One of the more frequently used tools on the website is the warrant selector. This application allows you to forecast scenarios, depending on where you think the underlying is heading over a certain period and then simulate what would happen to your warrant’s value.

An new tool is the Big Tool. This all-in-one covered warrant interface combines dynamic data, live prices and the warrant simulator. The Big Tool is available under the trading tools section.

Before commencing trading you should be comfortable that warrants are a suitable investment for you. In order to assist you with this assessment you should read the Risk Warning information provided. For more information, please click on the "Risk Warning" link on the left.

 Paper trading

The  “Virtual Portfolio” feature allows you to paper trade all SG warrants. This simulator allows you to trade all SG warrants and trackers without risk. You can track your performance since you created your portfolio, place limit orders and lock-in gains. A great way to familiarize yourself with warrant trading.
